ENCYCLOPLANTS
VIOLA
Viola plants are a Perennial plant but often used as a Annual plant as the cold of Britains winters can kill the plant, but if put into protection during the winter then they will be ok.
This plant is perfect for edging, beddings and containers. Viola plants come in a very wide range of colours and have a very distinctive attractive center to the flower.
sow seeds between Febuary and March for summer flowering or June and September for early spring flowering, protection is required for winter germination.
Place seeds on the surface of a multipurpose compost mix and cover with a fine sprinkle of compost, suggest using a sift for this to remove the lumps of compost. Place under polythene or glass and keep moist in a light place but not too hot and out of direct sun as this can prevent germination.
Once seedlings are big enough to handle transplant into trays evenly spaced and allow to grow in cooler conditions ready to plant out in the garden.
This plant prefers well drained soil and full to semi sun when outdoors, plants grow to between 10-15cm in height.
Viola is a native plant to most temperate Northern Hemisphere countries.
