BROAD BEANS
Broad Bean plants are an easy plaant to grow with fantastic crops. there are different types of Broad Beans to grow which include, Aquadulce Claudia which is the best for planting in Autumn and if you live in the north and have heavier soils then growing the spring plants is a better choice, Red Epicure is better for this time of growing. Autumn sown seeds need a sheltered spot and free draining soil.
Broad Beans are grown well in soil enriched with manure, a week before sowing seeds ad nitrogen fertilizer to the soil. Seeds should be spaced out to about 25cm apart.
Broad Beans need to be grown up and wired to canes for support as they grow taller.
Pests that may affect the plants are Blackfly, Pea and Bean Weevils, Mice, Birds, Chocolate spot and Mildew.
Broad Bean plants are a native plant to Afghanistan and the Himalayan foothills.
