ASPARAGUS PEA
The Asparagus Pea plant is a plant that produces peas yet tastes just like Asparagus as the name suggests. This is very easy to grow and produces great yields.
Asparagus Pea grown along with Asparagus are a good way to extend the Asparagus season as crops of the Asparagus Pea are ususally ready as the Asparagus season is coming to an end.
This plant also comes with the added bonus of having sweet-pea like flowers which are very attractive, before the pods are produced.
Sow the Asparagus Pea in pots or modules in late April and plant out in late May, they prefer a sunny position and regular watering.
Pick the pods when they are around 2.5cm long otherwise they will become tough, stringy and loose flavour. pick regularly as this will increase pod production giving a better crop.
The Asparagus Pea plant is native to New Guinea.
